VW Passat B8 Common Problems Malaysia
Passat B8 with DQ381 wet-clutch is reliable but watch HPFP + cam follower on EA888, carbon at 60,000–80,000 km, and DSG fluid never skipped.

Passat B8 EA888 — HPFP & Carbon
All Passat B8 variants use the EA888 Gen 3 direct-injection engine. Carbon buildup on intake valves is inevitable — walnut blast every 60,000–80,000 km (RM 950–1,300). HPFP failure (P0087) is less common than on Q5 but always check the cam follower. DQ381 wet-clutch DSG is reliable — fluid every 40,000 km is the main maintenance item. Compared to Golf, Passat has a larger fuel tank and sump, so oil service cost is slightly higher.
Passat B8 Door Handle & Sunroof Issues
Known B8 issues in Malaysia: (1) door handle micro-switch failure — handle feels stiff or door won't open from outside (RM 280–480 per door); (2) panoramic sunroof drain clogging — water ingress into cabin during heavy rain if drains blocked. Clean drains every 20,000 km. (3) DSC module fault codes (non-critical) on some units — VCDS required to clear.
