Axia AMT — Understand Your Gearbox
The pre-2023 Axia uses a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) — this is a robotised manual gearbox with a dry clutch, NOT a torque converter automatic or CVT. The hesitation and slight jerk when moving from standstill is a normal characteristic of this design. The clutch actuator (the motor that releases and engages the clutch) wears at 60,000–80,000 km — when engagement becomes erratic or slow, replace the actuator. The 2023 facelift Axia (D71B) upgraded to D-CVT, eliminating this issue. For 2023+ Axia: change D-CVT fluid every 40,000 km with Perodua-spec fluid.
