Nissan Sylphy CV Joint Malaysia
Sylphy is front-wheel drive — front CV joints and boots are the components to watch. CV boot inspection at every major service; a torn boot exposes the grease-packed joint to contamination and leads to clicking on full-lock turns within 10,000–20,000 km. Boot replacement while the joint is still healthy is far cheaper than full CV joint replacement. Malaysia's speed bumps and uneven roads accelerate boot wear. Outer CV joints wear faster than inners due to the steering angle.
CV (constant velocity) joints connect the driveshaft to the wheels, allowing power to be transmitted at an angle as the suspension moves. In Malaysia, CV joints take a beating from speed bumps (bukit unta), potholes, and high mileage — especially on front-wheel-drive cars.
The classic clicking noise — what it means
- Clicking or popping noise when turning with acceleration — usually the outer CV joint
- Clunking noise on acceleration or deceleration in a straight line — inner CV joint or driveshaft coupling
- Vibration felt through the steering wheel or floor at certain speeds
- Grease spray inside the wheel arch — torn CV boot is the cause
Boot replacement vs full joint replacement
If caught early (torn boot but joint still smooth with no noise), a boot replacement can save the joint: RM 80–180 per boot including grease repack. If the joint itself is already clicking or rough, full replacement is needed: RM 250–600 per joint depending on the car.
