Mercedes-Benz uses the XENTRY/DAS diagnostic system — only authorised dealers have the full factory version. Independent workshops typically use ICOM emulators, Launch X431, iCarsoft MB II, or Autel MaxiSys, which cover most fault codes but may lack access to coding, adaptations, and some brand-specific sub-codes. For basic fault reading, battery coding, ATF adaptation resets, and common repair codes: a quality independent scanner is sufficient. For SCN (Software Calibration Number) coding after major repairs, control unit programming, or AIRMATIC calibration: an authorised dealer or a specialist with XENTRY access is required.
