Honda Accord Common Problems Malaysia (TC10/CP/CU)

Honda Accord 1.5T oil dilution, CVT judder, brake wear and electrical issues. What Malaysia owners need to know.

Honda Accord Common Problems Malaysia (TC10/CP/CU)

The Honda Accord has earned a strong reputation for long-term reliability in Malaysia. The current TC10 generation (2018+) with the 1.5T engine is popular, but shares a few known issues with the Civic's turbo unit — knowledge that helps you stay ahead.

1. Oil dilution (TC10 1.5T, early ownership)

The 1.5T VTEC Turbo engine in the TC10 Accord shares the same known oil dilution tendency as the Civic FC — fuel can mix into the engine oil during frequent short-distance city driving. Shorten your oil change interval to 5,000–7,000 km if most of your driving is in-city short trips.

2. CVT judder (fluid-related)

The Accord TC10 uses a CVT that responds well to regular fluid changes. Low-speed judder when the fluid has never been replaced is one of the most common Accord complaints from Malaysian owners. Change CVT fluid every 40,000–60,000 km using Honda HMMF.

3. Brake wear (front pads)

The Accord is heavier than the City — typically 1,400–1,500 kg. This means front brake pads wear faster. Expect 40,000–50,000 km for front pads if most driving is city stop-start. Inspect at every service.

4. Older models: transmission (6AT) service

Pre-TC10 Accords (CP, CU, TK — 2008–2017) use a conventional 6-speed automatic, not a CVT. The 6AT is robust but benefits from ATF changes every 40,000–60,000 km. Neglected ATF causes slipping and harsh shifting at high mileage.
