Why Transmission Fluid Is Not Lifetime
BMW once labelled the ZF 8HP and 7DCT as having lifetime fluid — this claim has since been revised. In Malaysia's heat, ATF and DCT fluid break down faster than in Europe. Dark fluid at 60,000 km indicates oxidation and reduced lubrication. A X7 gearbox rebuild costs RM 8,000–18,000; a fluid service costs RM 380–600.
