Q7 4L Air Suspension & Supercharger
The Q7 4L (2006–2015) has air suspension on all variants — compressor and air strut failures are the main cost driver at 80,000–120,000 km. The 3.0 TFSI supercharged shares the same coupler wear as the A6 C7. Torsen permanent quattro diff fluid (SAF-XO) every 60,000 km. Many 4L units in Malaysia have poorly maintained air systems from multiple previous owners.
Q7 4M (2016+) — Turbo TFSI
4M Q7 uses 3.0 TFSI turbo (not supercharger) + 8-speed Tiptronic. Air suspension standard — same failure modes. HPFP + cam follower same as all TFSI. Heavy SUV: brake consumables wear faster. Always verify air suspension compressor noise at idle — should be quiet and brief.
