Used Honda City Inspection Checklist — 15 Things to Check
15 checks before buying a used Honda City — CVT, aircon, chassis, electrics, accident history. Avoid problem cars.

A used Honda City is one of Malaysia's smartest second-hand buys — reliable, affordable to run, and parts are everywhere. But buying the wrong one can turn into an expensive mistake. Here are 15 things to check before handing over any money.
Engine and mechanical checks
1. Check the engine bay for oil leaks, coolant leaks, or signs of recent repainting (accident repair). 2. Check the engine oil on the dipstick — it should be amber, not black or milky (milky oil = head gasket problem). 3. Start the engine cold and listen for rattles or knocking (timing chain, engine mount issues). 4. Test drive: feel for CVT judder at low speed, unusual vibrations, pulling to one side.
Aircon, electrical and body checks
5. Run the aircon for 10 minutes — should be cold within 2 minutes. Listen for compressor noise. 6. Test all windows, locks, mirrors, and interior electronics. 7. Check all lights (headlights, brake lights, reverse lights, indicators). 8. Look for uneven panel gaps or mismatched paint — signs of accident repair.
History and document checks
9. Run a JPJ check (carlist.my or myCarInfo) to verify VIN, owner history, and any outstanding summons. 10. Ask for the service record — ideally stamped by a workshop. 11. For GM6/GM2 (2014–2019): ask specifically whether CVT fluid has ever been changed. 12. Check tyre age (DOT code on the tyre sidewall — last 4 digits = week and year of manufacture).
