Honda Odyssey Common Problems Malaysia (RC1/RC4)
Honda Odyssey RC1/RC4 sliding door faults, aircond issues, transmission and suspension maintenance. Premium MPV owner guide.

The Honda Odyssey RC1/RC4 is a premium family MPV — comfortable, spacious, and generally reliable. But as a larger, more complex vehicle, it has some specific maintenance points that differ from the City or Jazz.
1. Sliding door mechanism faults
The powered sliding doors on the RC1/RC4 are the most common source of complaints. Motor faults, roller wear, and sensor calibration issues can cause doors that open slowly, stop mid-travel, or refuse to close fully. Annual inspection of the sliding door tracks and rollers is recommended.
2. Aircon — rear zone performance
The Odyssey's large cabin and dual-zone aircon system means the rear passengers depend on good refrigerant levels and a clean evaporator. If rear passengers complain about insufficient cooling, check refrigerant levels and clean the rear evaporator.
3. 6AT transmission (RC1) — fluid service
The RC1 uses a 6-speed automatic transmission — not a CVT. The 6AT is smooth and durable when serviced. ATF changes every 40,000–60,000 km are recommended. An unserviced 6AT at high mileage can develop slow, lurchy shifts.
4. Suspension comfort at high mileage
The Odyssey's comfort-oriented suspension uses softer components that can wear more noticeably at high mileage. If the ride quality has degraded significantly (extra bouncing, nose-dip under braking), have the shock absorbers inspected. Expect this around 100,000–120,000 km.
