Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Turbo Failure Malaysia (1KD-FTV)
Blue smoke and power loss are turbo failure signs on the 1KD-FTV. Proper oil and warm-up procedure extend turbo life in Malaysia's heat.

Prado 1GD-FTV uses a variable-geometry turbo (VGT). In Malaysia's stop-start traffic, turbo carbon deposits build up in the VGT vanes — causing lag, sticking vanes and eventually a turbo that can't spool up. Prevention is regular highway runs and correct oil changes.
Turbo Care & Repair
- VGT cleaning (actuator + vanes via scan tool): RM 300–500 — do every 60,000 km for prevention
- Turbo rebuild: RM 1,500–3,000 — cheaper than OEM replacement; 12-month warranty at our workshop
- OEM turbo replacement (1GD-FTV): RM 3,500–6,000 installed
