Honda Jazz GK5 Common Problems Malaysia
Honda Jazz GK5 CVT judder, aircond, electrical gremlins and service tips. Know the weak spots before buying or servicing.

The Honda Jazz GK5 (2014–2020) is one of the most popular hatchbacks Malaysia has ever had. Reliable and practical — but like any car, it has known weak spots that regular owners need to be aware of.
1. CVT judder — most common complaint
The GK5 uses the same CVT family as the Honda City GM6. Low-speed judder when accelerating from a standstill is the number one complaint — and it is almost always caused by CVT fluid that has never been changed. The fix is straightforward: change the CVT fluid (Honda HMMF) and the judder reduces significantly. Do this every 40,000–60,000 km.
2. Aircon efficiency drops over time
The Jazz's compact cabin means the aircon works hard. The cabin filter is the first thing to check when aircon feels less effective — it's located behind the glovebox and takes 5 minutes to replace. After the filter, check for refrigerant level and compressor condition.
3. Battery life — 2 to 3 years in Malaysia
Malaysia's heat is harder on batteries than cooler climates. Jazz batteries typically last 2–3 years in Malaysian conditions. If your Jazz is 3 years old and you've never replaced the battery, get it load-tested — don't wait for a roadside breakdown.
4. Engine mount wear
At higher mileage (80,000 km+), engine mounts wear and cause idle shaking — the same issue seen in the Honda City. If your Jazz shakes noticeably at idle or during gear changes, have the engine mounts inspected.
