Honda BR-V Common Problems Malaysia
Honda BR-V DD4 CVT issues, aircond efficiency loss and maintenance tips for Malaysian families. Know what to watch for.

The Honda BR-V is Malaysia's go-to budget 7-seat family car. It shares the City and Jazz's 1.5L i-VTEC engine and CVT, meaning its maintenance profile and common problems are very similar — with a few extra things to watch given the heavier load it typically carries.
1. CVT judder — worsened by full-load use
The BR-V's CVT faces heavier demands than in a City — carrying 6 or 7 passengers regularly puts more stress on the transmission. CVT fluid changes are even more important here: every 40,000 km is recommended for a BR-V used regularly at full capacity.
2. Aircon struggles to cool the cabin
The BR-V's 7-seat cabin is significantly larger than the City's. The single-zone aircon system works harder to maintain cool temperatures — especially in the rear seats. If you regularly carry passengers in the third row, check refrigerant levels and compressor condition at every service.
3. Tyre and suspension wear
A BR-V consistently carrying heavy loads will wear tyres and suspension components faster than a lightly-loaded car. Check tyre tread depth every 15,000 km and have shock absorbers inspected at 80,000 km or sooner if carrying full load regularly.
