5 tips to care for a turbo engine
Almost all European cars are turbocharged now. These 5 daily habits keep the turbo durable and prevent oil burning.

Turbocharging gives small engines big power, but the turbo works under high heat and revs, making it more sensitive to oil and driving habits. The habits below greatly extend turbo life.
1. Use the right oil and change it on time
Turbo engines demand quality oil — always use oil meeting the manufacturer spec and change it on schedule, don't stretch the mileage.
2. Don't floor it on a cold start
On a cold start the oil hasn't fully circulated; high revs immediately accelerate turbo and engine wear. Drive gently for a minute or two first.
3. Don't switch off right after a fast run
After a long or hard drive, let the engine idle for half a minute before switching off to cool the turbo and avoid oil coking.
4. Clean intake carbon regularly
Turbo direct-injection engines build up carbon easily, hurting power and economy — do periodic intake carbon cleaning.
5. Watch for oil burning
Check the oil level regularly. If it drops unusually fast, come in early to avoid further turbo or engine damage.
